Almost Christmas

It's hard to believe Christmas is only a few days away, especially for the following two reasons.

#1 - My last day of school was just today. While I enjoy the long break after the holidays settle down, the craziness is like crashing into a brick wall pushing it so close to Christmas.

#2 - I haven't shopped for Stephen yet, nor has he shopped for me. This is in no way a level indicator for our love and/or mutual admiration. What it IS, however, is an indicator of the nothingness that is our free time. It is for richer versions of people like us that the "professional shopper" has a job. (I hope you're grateful, Professional Shopper People.)

In other news, Katy started walking a couple of weeks ago. She has apparently flipped the Independence Switch that comes standard on all toddlers. Since she can get around by herself, she also wants to open and close her own sippy cup, get out her own toys, spoon her own food, etc. Some parents greet this stage of toddlerhood with sadness and regret, reminiscing about the times when their baby was a little more needy and a little less independent.

We are not those parents.

Instead, we would be the ones on the side saying things like, "About time she got the hang of that walking thing. My arms were starting to look like a professional weightlifter." So we are looking forward to her continued growth and development. Who's to say that in a few years, she won't be capable of laundry, dusting, and other household chores? After all, God didn't give her over to us so she could sit on her duff and watch Veggie Tales all day long. Work it, girl! And before long, my daughter will be the one with the scary-looking biceps. :)

Isn't God's timing wonderful! Your arms will get a few months rest before they have to kick into high gear again. I can't wait to hold our baby, but I'm not looking forward to lugging the car seat around again!

Yeah!! Congrats Katy!! Bobby and I were very easy on each this year, we bought something for the both of us, and basically told each other what else we needed/wanted. We actually only had to be creative with stocking stuffers. Is it going to work for us to meet in Cincinnati on January 13th??

I'm right with ya on the Christmas shopping thing - - - - Greg and I will be doing ALL of ours today. Well, I did grab 2 toys, one each for the grandchildren, in Wal-Mart the other day, otherwise we have done NADA shopping!!!

And - - - about hitting the wall by going so strong at school until now - - - - I FEEL YOUR PAIN - - - I hit the same wall. I was at my desk till after 4 yesterday getting everything finished up.

Emilio, you crack me up. That entry was so hilarious and I'm not even sure why. Just because it was so YOU! I love the part about not shopping being in no way an indicator of mutual love or admiration. Should I keep that in mind when I don't get all my presents on Christmas morning because Michael didn't order them on time? Ah being a music teacher in December...the world of being a walking stressball.

Amanda -- Be kind to the musician in your life. :) December. Yikes. And that's all that need be said there.

Keetha - I actually did some Stephen shopping the night I posted this. It was a miracle. And I think he had time to get me a present somewhere. At least now we both have something to open. Whew...

:-)

Greg and I did all ours yesterday. He made me pour over some jewelry - - - then disappeared while we were waiting for our meal in Applebees - - - - Hmmmmmmmm I think I KNOW what that means.

I didn't get the "fun" of selecting his gifts, he has a list of fishing gear a mile long (with a price tag just about as long) that he is ordering for his own Christmas from several online sources. Plus - - - he kept throwing things he wanted for himself into the cart. Ah - - - the joys of 31 and a half years of wedded "bliss"
